There are three bands that use the name "The People." The People - Kansas City 1999-2003 The People were a band from Kansas City, Missouri. They began as an early art-rock project by cousins Ben Grimes and Ryan Shank in Springfield, MO in 1999. They independently released one full-length record, "The Premise Is Sound" in 2000, and recorded an unreleased 3 song EP entitled "Japan." Thom Daugherty left the band to join The Elms in 2000. In 2003, the band signed with Astralwerks Records
